TF Sealant Soil-Binding Product Instructions
TF Sealant acts like glue for soil. It increases soil strength by 2,000 to 3,000 percent, and successive applications serve to strengthen the previous applications.
You can use it in varying concentrations. If it's used in a very light strength, it will make the soil harder and hold plants in the soil to resist wind erosion for growing crops. It could be used in a light strength (10 parts water to 1 part sealant) to calm down the dust in livestock yards (or orchards) without negatively affecting the soil for growing (or making cattle stand on a concrete like surface). It can also be mixed extra strong to make a better base for building roads than what is currently used for that purpose (1 parts water to 1 part sealant). The rule of thumb for applying the TF Sealant for dust control is an easy formula.
Dust proofing (and mud proofing) driveways is an easy place to start. Multiply the width of the area to be applied by the length to get the square foot area. A ten-foot wide driveway that is 100 feet long would have 1000 square feet of TF Sealant to apply. Multiply the square feet by .01 to get the gallons of product needed. 1,000 X .01 is 10 gallons of product for this application.
When applying TF Sealant you need to get moisture content of 7% to assure good coverage. You achieve that by doing two applications. Do one in the morning and the second a few hours later (or longer). The first pass uses 1/3rd of the product mixed with water at ten to one.
To do the driveway, above, that would be 33.3 gallons of water mixed with 3.3 gallons of TF Sealant (1/3rd of 10) is applied first. A few hours later (at least two) apply the rest at a 5 to 1 ratio, or 33.3 gallons of water mixed with 6.6 gallons of product. There is no preparation needed for dust control, although you may want to have the driveway graded before applying to get out and bumps and ruts.
The reason you do a 10-1 ratio on the first pass and a 5 -1 ration on the second pass is that the 10-1 ratio is very diluted and will penetrate deeper into the soil. The 5-1 ratio is a less diluted, thicker mixture, but it will follow the path of the 10-1 mixture and as a rule of thumb will penetrate about 3 inches into the soil. This will give you a great dust and mud-controlled surface. Remember, with additional application, previous layers re-bind with the new application, so the next year you can re-apply the 10-1 mixture to re-new your application.
To make a roadway that is hard like bricks, you need to break up the soil with a blade or some other piece of equipment to create 4 to 6 inches of loose dirt. Mix sealant in a 1 to 1 ratio with water. Apply it to the area, ¼ gallon per square yard and blade it over or some way mix the sealant in thoroughly. If it is not mixed in it will not work because it will not penetrate in that thick a mixture. Go over the area with a compactor to compact the dirt. Wait a day and then put a sealing layer with the same ratio. Add as many wearing layers as you want.
